| The Hamden Symphony Orchestra at
Quinnipiac is a non-profit community organization devoted to the
performance of fine music. During our ninth season, in 1970, we
established a concerto competition with the desire to nurture the
special musical gifts of young people in the community. Since then our
orchestra has featured these players in one concert each season and we
and our audiences have delighted in sharing many fine performances.
It is our intention not only to recognize superior artistic accomplishment but also to foster development of each individual's potential through participation in this exercise. The experience of learning a concerto and playing before a panel of judges can be quite valuable personally as well as musically. We hope you share this viewpoint and will encourage your students to participate in this activity. |
This competition is open to students in
grades 9 - 12 who study voice, piano, or any orchestral instruments and
meet the following requirements:
