Hamden Symphony Orchestra

Vesna Mehinovic, Music Director

The Hamden Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1962 by Ruth Brooks and is a volunteer organization with over 35 members. In our forty-seven years, we have promoted classical music in the Hamden area, and have a long standing tradition of supporting young musicians with our Young Musicians Concerto Competition

The orchestra was under the baton of Paul Gacek for thirty-eight years, and in 2008 Vesna Mehinovic became the Music Director. Mrs. Mehinovic was the first woman conductor in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She also conducts the Waterbury Principal Youth Symphony Orchestra and has won multiple awards for conducting as well as pedagogy.

Rehearsals are held at Southern Connecticut State University on Thursday evenings starting at 7:30 and our concerts are located in the Hamden area.
